Charged Particles featuring Randy Brecker
Wednesday 20th September 2023
How can this not be the ‘gig of the year’ (or, perhaps even of The Spin’s history)?!
First of all - as many of you will know - the Californian band Charged Particles with Tod Dickow is a formidable outfit in its own right. They have now visited The Spin twice, performing the music of Michael Brecker and have blown away the audiences with the power, virtuosity and sheer magnificence of their performances. What better testimony could be possible than having Michael's brother, 7-times GRAMMY winner, Randy Brecker, now touring with the band?
Here is what Randy wrote of Charged Particles:
"Smoking and intense from beginning to end, the band has internalized Mike and his music to an impressive degree of accuracy and feeling! I found myself pinching my arm to remind myself that Mike is sadly no longer with us. You find yourself jumping into Mike’s mindset listening to this CD, transported to another time."
Randy was, of course, 50% of the leadership of The Brecker Brothers (and then later, ‘The Return of The Brecker Brothers’), probably the biggest contemporary jazz outfit on the planet whilst active. Aside from this band, he has also had collaborations with such international superstars as George Benson, Eliane Elias, Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Jaco Pastorius, James Taylor….and on and on the list goes. For a more comprehensive review of Randy’s work, please see his wiki entry!
And now, consider that you will be able to see this incredible 5-piece line-up in the intimate setting of Tap Social! For technical reasons of great complexity, we need to sell this gig within the next two weeks (if this does not occur, refunds will be issued to those that have bought tickets)! We apologise for this being a lot more expensive than regular gigs - but we’re sure you’ll understand!
The line up for the gig will be:
Randy Brecker: trumpet
Tod Dickow: tenor saxophone
Greg Sankovich: keyboards
Aaron Germain: bass
Jon Krosnick: drums
