Damon Brown w/ The Spin Band

Thursday 2nd December 2021

Having self-exiled himself to South Korea some years ago, it is now a rare treat to find ace trumpeter Damon Brown back on our island; the Spin is delighted to have secured this date with one of the club’s all-time favourite musicians. Damon is one of those trumpeters whose totally fluid improvising is always imbued with references to the blues. With his band, ‘Killer Shrimp’, he won the ‘Best Jazz Ensemble’ and ‘Album of the Year’ at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, just before leaving for Korea!

Damon’s appeal has led him to tour in bands with all sorts of major artists, including Benny Golson, Dave Liebman, Stan Tracey and ex-Miles Davis saxophonist, Steve Grossman.

Here are a couple of quotes which summarises pretty well Damon’s work:

Damon Brown‘s long-lined solo on the closing swinger Roughneck Blues could trade phrases with Wynton Marsalis without blinking.’ - John Fordam, THE GUARDIAN

‘On a good night he is one of the world’s finest players, and last night was such a one. Fluent, impassioned and technically superb’ - Jack Massarick, THE EVENING STANDARD.
