A David Gordon Special
Thursday 24th March 2022
The Spin, continues to inject the occasional concert in a new venue, and we were really pleased to have been asked by the Handle Bar to bring music there on the 24th. Lets start with the venue: this is a small, charming and intimate room in the city centre with a great vibe! There will be vegetarian and non-vegetarian tapas dishes and a great bar on offer, as from when the doors open at 7.00pm. The venue is small, so tickets are limited to just 40: don’t delay in booking!!
If this proves popular with you, the Spin audience, we may continue the occasional ‘Spin Intimate’ gig!
And so to our guest for the evening: David Gordon has been a Spin favourite for many a year - and with good reason: he is, arguably, one of the most brilliant, inventive and creative pianists one could hope to encounter anywhere! David’s musical career has been - and continues to be - hugely versatile, ranging from performing harpsichord with The English Concert to touring the world with the gypsy-tango band, Zum. In between all of that, he has run his own jazz trio, producing many critically acclaimed CDs: his last, ‘Alexander Scriabin’s Rag Time Band’ was hailed by MOJO as ‘Jazz CD of the Year' in 2020.
Given the size of the venue, this gig will be in trio format and it also features one of the UK’s finest bass players, Oli Hayhurst. Regarding the holding down of the time, you will be in safe hands from Oli’s contributions; as the London Jazz News put it, Oli is “a really positive, pro-active bassist and his control of time and tuning are super-human”.
