Frank Williams/ Cameron Pierre /Pat Thomas

This Thursday, we head in a township direction and an evening of South African grooves, jazz standards and much more. We welcome three celebrated musicians - Frank Williams (tenor sax), Cameron Pierre (guitar) and Pat Thomas (piano) for this township inspired journey.

Frank Williams left South Africa in 1978 and quickly made his  name on the UK jazz scene in the 80s. He was one of the frontline players with the legendary Brotherhood of Breath as well as stints with the superbly funky Breakfast Band in which he replaced Tim Whitehead. He went on to work Bheki Mseleku, Dudu Pukwana's Zila and played at the Wembley Stadium tributes to Nelson Mandela in 1988 and 1990!

On guitar is one of the country's leading players, Cameron Pierre. Cameron has been Courtney Pine's first call guitar player for many years and is a mesmerising soloist and accompanist who brings together jazz, calypso and reggae. Outside of his work with Courtney, he has played with everyone from Pee Wee Ellis (of James Brown fame) to Joe Cocker. 

On piano, and bringing his extraordinary, deep mix of improvisation and groove to the evening is the celebrated Pat Thomas. In 2014 Pat became the recipient of the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composition Award – testament to Pat’s reputation as one of the leading improvisers of his generation. 

Joining these three master groovers will be Mark Doffman and Raf Mizraki.
