Gilad Atzmon’s Organ Trio

Wednesday 23rd October 2024

It’s a genuine thrill to welcome back to The Spin the international jazz artist Gilad Atzmon in a rare return to the UK. This band features the UK’s No.1 Hammond Organ player, Ross Stanley and the incredibly talented Joel Barford on drums.

Gilad resided in London between 1993 and 2019, garnering a reputation for being the hardest working jazz musician in the UK! He was widely known for his virtuosic, expansive musical styles from early bop to world-jazz. Whilst in the UK, Gilad formed the Orient House Ensemble, touring around the world with this band, producing many award-winning albums.

Ross Stanley (also well known to The Spin’s audience) is by far the most in demand pianist and organist in the UK, and Joel Barford is already a hero of the young generation of British jazz.

Gilad was always one of the most popular musicians to perform at The Spin during his UK tenure. In case any of you have forgotten Gilad’s astonishing performances (or if you are new to the whole Gilad Atzmon experience), take a look at this brief selection of quotes from the national press:

“A formidable improvisational array...a jazz giant steadily drawing himself up to his full height"- John Fordham, The Guardian

“Best Musician living in the world today” -  Robert Wyatt, The Guardian

“Atzmon is an astonishing musician.” - Metro

“Atzmon is a loose cannon: a larger than life figure with an almost overpowering musical personality... it's as perfect a jazz marriage as you could wish for” - Phil Jonson, Independent on Sunday

This evening promises to be incendiary: from ecstatic hard bop moments to sentimental nostalgic ballads from the Great American Songbook, this band of complete maestros will deliver a truly memorable evening.
