John Etheridge w/ The Spin Band
Sunday 6th February 2022
The Spin is delighted to announce its first ‘club’ gig at the Old Fire Station. Firstly, please note that this will be on a Sunday and at an earlier time than usual. The seating will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so do show up in good time to secure your ideal spot! Although this is a ‘theatre gig’, it will still be informal, there will be a bar running throughout the evening and we fully intend to maintain the ‘Spin vibe'! We are also really keen to keep this affordable for everybody….so we are continuing to offer our ‘early bird’ tickets at the lovely, rounded price of a tenner! We will only know if the OFS works for us as a venue if we have an audience that can potentially give us feedback - so please support the club and come along!
It’s going to be a great evening, anyway, with this killer band:
John Etheridge has been at the forefront of the guitar-related music scene for an impressive amount of time. Not only is John a leading jazz player, he is recognised internationally for his stylistically varied work, having toured the world with such diverse major acts as Stephane Grapelli, Soft Machine, Andy Summers and Nigel Kennedy. His flamboyant and virtuosic playing - combined with a musicianship that sees him equally comfortably partnered with classical guitar maestro, John Williams and veteran prog rock stars, Soft Machine - has drawn glowing plaudits from the likes of Pat Metheny and Sting:
“One of the best guitarists in the world” (Metheny)
“I only wanted to be a proper musician, like John Etheridge” (Sting).
John was the very first guest to perform at The Spin, back in May 1999. Since then, he has appeared regularly at the club (to sell-out audiences) and he has never failed to woo and wow those that have attended with his infectious, fiery fare; this gig promises to be no exception!
This gig will include two original Spin band members from that 1999 opener: Raph Mizraki on basses and Pete Oxley on guitars. Also joining them will be one of London’s most in-demand drummers, Rick Finlay.
