Julian Costello Quartet
Thursday 10th April 2014
A pleasure to have Julian Costello come to the Spin for the first time, bringing with him an extremely accomplished quartet. The band have released four albums to date: Edge of Distinction (May 2011) Der-Da-Di-Da (2009) Cake and Consequences (2004) and Tea and Scandal in 1996, all being well received in the jazz press and Julian's compositional skills can be heard on Channel 4 and Jazz Fm.
The group features the splendid Milo Fell on drums; Milo has gigged and recorded with Tim Whitehead, Tony Woods, and The Cinematic Orchestra. Patrick Naylor performs extensively as a guitarist and bandleader. He has released two critically acclaimed albums and completed 4 Jazz Services tours of the UK. His debut album was jazz CD of the week in the London Evening Standard. Patrick has recorded and gigged with the likes of Eddie Parker, and Kate Dimbleby.
Alex Keen is an excellent double bass player much in demand. As well as playing for the Julian Costello Quartet he has toured with Theo Travis, appeared on Radio 3 with Philip Clouts and he plays with the Gypsy Jazz group Vipers' Dream.
A really fine group that needs to be heard.
