The Spin is delighted to bring this anglo-Italian band to the club, performing pieces from their new album 'Reimagining The Beatles'

This is something of a ‘super-group’, featuring at the front, the outstanding Italian saxophonist Gaetano Partipilo along with the ever-inventive and brilliant pianist, Jonathan Gee. In the rhythm section is one of the most striking ‘new jazz generation’ bassists, Conor Murray, and on the drums is Gee’s long-term drummer, the ever-in-demand Winston Clifford!

Just a few words about Winston: it’s a pleasure to have him back at the club after many a year. Winston has performed and recorded with pretty much everybody at the highest level on the UK jazz scene (and internationally), including Carleen Anderson, Tim Garland, Toni Kofi, Julian Joseph, Courtney Pine, Andy Sheppard, Art Farmer, Birelli Lagrene, Joey Calderazzo, Freddie Hubbard…and on and on goes the list!

Jonathan Gee has for many a year been one of the most popular jazz pianists in the country. His deep musicianship, coupled with a ferocious technique saw him start his career with the ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ of the British Jazz Awards, when in his early twenties! Since then, he has gone on to be known as a prolific writer and performer, ever crossing musical and international borders - as exemplified by the band we bring to you for this gig!

As the album title suggests, much of the repertoire features new arrangements of classic songs by The Beatles. London Jazz news reviewed this project, observing that the ‘harmonic shifts, groove combined with rhythmic flexibility, the fluid and imaginative soloing combine to make this a great listen’

Joining Jonathan to front the band is the Italian sax star, Gaetano Partipilo,  known for an original style characterised by a strong mixture of avant- garde and tradition.  He has played with everybody from Jason Moran to Dee Dee Bridgewater to Billy Cobham.
