The 25th Birthday Bash, featuring John Etheridge and other Major Dudes!
Wednesday 5th June 2024
Good folks of Spin world, the club turns 25 this month!
On our first ever gig, we featured the mighty Eth…the UK’s No.1 guitar supremo, the axe-wielding wonder of the 6-stringed plank, the fiery phenomenon that is JOHN ETHERIDGE…and John will be back to woo and wow you for this special occasion!
Please know that we have put together a very happening band for this night, featuring two more major dudes from the relentlessly-touring band, Soft Machine, namely Theo Travis (saxes) and Fred T. Baker (bass). Outside of Soft Machine, but also currently touring with equal vigour in Hejira are drummer Rick Finlay and Spin stalwart guitarist, Pete Oxley.
Well, a few words about everybody:
John Etheridge has been at the forefront of the jazz world, since touring with Stéphane Grappelli for 5 years, when in his twenties. He has since toured extensively with Soft Machine, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Summers (of The Police), John Williams and numerous other A-listers. Having performed with Pat Metheny, Pat described John as “one of the best guitarists in the world"
Theo Travis has long been a first-call saxophonist for top-flight ‘proggers’, such as Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, King Crimson’s Robert Fripp, Gong and many others. He is also a killer jazz player who has performed at Ronnie Scott’s over 75 times and has recorded on 200+ albums!
Fred T. Baker is one of the best bass players on the planet! It is a thrill to have finally found a date where he is available to play The Spin! (See his wiki entry for info on this maestro!)
Rick Finlay has long been a top, in-demand drummer in (and out of!) London. He has been a major figure in the West End for many a year (Blood Brothers) and has appeared on TV shows from Parkinson to Ant & Dec’s Late Night Takeaway and The Late Show…
Pete Oxley…opened The Spin with band mates, Mark Doffman and Raph Mizraki. As the house band, they accompanied literally hundreds of the best players in the UK for twenty years at the ‘Old Spin’, before the pandemic. Pete has released 15 critically-acclaimed albums of original music over the years and is one of only a handful of British musicians to have his works included in the world’s leading publisher’s Real Books (Sher Music).
