The Oxley-Meier Guitar Project
Thursday 25th May 2023
The Oxley-Meier Guitar Project bring their brand-new album, ‘Mercurial Indigo’ to The Spin (following their ‘Main Show’ appearance at Ronnie Scott’s, the previous night!).
Pete Oxley writes:
“Nick and I feel strongly that we have written our best album to date with this one; it’s also our best studio performance and sonically, the best recording! The ten new tunes range from roaring Turkish turbulence to lush romantic ballads. As ever, our ‘world-music’ influences take the listener on an aural journey from Istanbul to Brazil! Our ace rhythm section of Raph Mizraki and Paul Cavaciuti are totally on top of their respective games and as a result, this album fizzes with a fully committed vibe from the off!
“The band is on a 17-date national tour (throughout most of May) and will be in extremely fine fettle by the time we get to Ronnie’s and The Spin… we really hope that you will want to come to what we can assure you will be one of The Spin’s most exciting gigs of the year!”
For those of you unfamiliar with the leaders’ work, in very brief: this is the 7th album they have made together and they have performed hundreds of concerts in the UK and Europe. Ralph Towner (guitar guru of Oregon etc.) wrote of their last album:
“This album is a wonderful example of the high level of music that can be made by combining two great guitarists/composers/improvisers such as Pete and Nicolas. They have put together a feast of virtuosity, delivered wit depth, wit and joy”
